Finding the Right Drying Capacity for Your Home

When shopping for a washer dryer, it’s important to remember that drying capacity is different from washing capacity. While a machine might wash up to 10kg of laundry, it will typically only dry around 6kg. Why? Wet clothes are heavier and require more room to tumble—this space allows warm air to circulate efficiently and dry your laundry properly.

Choosing the right drying capacity ensures your laundry dries effectively without overloading the machine. A larger household may benefit from a higher drying capacity, while smaller homes can manage with more compact options.

Washer dryers naturally carry two separate energy ratings—one for the wash cycle only, and another for the combined wash and dry cycle. The wash cycle is often much more efficient and can be rated as high as A, helping you save on everyday laundry loads. However, the combined wash and dry cycle generally uses more energy, so it typically carries a lower rating—currently as low as C on the scale. When you see an appliance listed as A/C, that means A for the wash cycle (excellent efficiency) and C for the full wash and dry cycle (standard for a combined machine). This is completely normal for washer dryers and reflects the extra energy required to dry clothes.
